Euro 2012 most wanted: Yann M'Vila

Arsenal’s pursuit of long term target Yann M’Vila has been dealt a huge blow, as Barcelona attempt to bring him to the Nou Camp.

Arsene Wenger is a huge admirer of the French midfielder, but he will not get to see him in action against England due to injury.

NAME: YANN M’VILA

POSITION: DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDER

AGE: 21

CLUB: STADE RENNES

NATIONALITY: FRANCE

MARKET VALUE: £17,000,000

HE’S A BIT LIKE: CLAUDE MAKELELE AND PATRICK VIERA

WANTED BY: ARSENAL, INTER MILAN, REAL MADRID, LIVERPOOL, BAYERN MUNICH, BARCELONA

M’Vila is becoming a hot transfer target for many clubs as M’Vila has announced that he will leave Rennes this summer. M’Vila is wanted by Inter Milan and Real Madrid but Barcelona have now entered the frame.

Tito Vilanova is looking to add more quality to the Barca squad and with Javier Mascherano moving into the defence, M’Vila could be the midfield enforcer necessary. Barcelona have reportedly asked Rennes officials about his behaviour off the field and his attitude to the game. No club is yet to make an official offer but Barcelona could be the first to table a bid.

M’Vila is robust into a tackle and would fit the Barcelona philosophy due to his fantastic passing abilities. His great vision compliments his range of passing and he has drawn comparisons to Patrick Viera and Claude Makelele. M’Vila has an incredible work rate along with lumbering physicality.

The 21 year old was set to play a vital role in France’s assault on Euro 2012 but an ankle injury has made him a major doubt for France’s game against England although he has regained fitness. M’Vila has been deployed as a box-to-box midfielder for Laurent Blanc but his ability to hold the ball and retain possession has seen him move to a more defensive role.

Frederic Antonetti, the Rennes manager, claimed that M’Vila ‘reads the game like Makelele, has the presence of Viera and can pass like Yaya Toure’. Despite being a tough tackling maestro in the middle of midfield, M’Vila is extremely disciplined and has only picked up 16 yellow cards throughout his professional career with only one red card.

The Gunners will have to break their transfer record if they are willing to get their man as Rennes slap a £17 million price tag on their star player. The interest of Barcelona will hurt their attempts to prise the Frenchman to the Emirates. Bacary Sagna however believes Robin Van Persie signing M’Vila could be key to the Dutchman staying in London.
