Total Football Scout - Bojan Krkic

In this Total Football Scout, Marcus Banks takes a closer look at Roma's Bojan Krkic. The Serbian born striker was once the jewel in the crown of the Barcelona youth setup but after finding himself behind the likes of Messi, Ronaldinho, Eto'o, Ibrahimovic, Henry, Pedro and Villa, Bojan understandably felt crowded out at the Nou Campa and departed.

Given a new lease of life in Italy, will the youngster be able to realise his former promise?

Bojan was destined for greatness after breaking into the Barcelona senior team under Frank Rijkaard in the 2007/08 season. After bagging a breathtaking 900 plus goals in his six years in the youth setup, he was set for star status. He became the youngest ever player for Barcelona to feature in a La Liga replacing Lionel Messi after coming on as a substitute for Giovani Dos Santos against Osasuna on the 16th September 2007.

The Spanish forward continued to break records and became the youngest player for Barcelona to play in the Champions League three days later against Lyon. The youngster continued to break records; becoming the youngest ever scorer for Barcelona in a league match, and only the second player born in the 1990s to score in the Champions League - the second youngest player to do so. Bojan even broke Real Madrid legend Raul’s record of number of goals scored in a debut season after the 21-year-old netted 10 in his first campaign.

In the new season, Bojan was mostly used as a substitute but still managed to guide Barcelona to their 19th league title. He also helped them to their first Copa Del Ray triumph in 11 years and was an unused substitute in the 2009 Champions League final against Manchester United which Barcelona won 2-0 completing a magnificent treble.

In the 2010/2011 season, Bojan found himself way down the pecking order with Lionel Messi, David Villa and Pedro all ahead of him at the Nou Camp. Following less and less appearances under Pep Guardiola, Bojan moved to Italy joining manager Luis Enrique at Roma for around £10 million. Barcelona included an optional £15 million buy back clause after 2012 and mandatory £11 million after 2013. Roma can stop the Catalans from buying the forward back by paying an enormous £26 million back to Barcelona.

Bojan has so far netted four goals for La Maggica but if he can settle quickly in Italy, he’s got the potential to be world-class.
