Cambridge v Alfreton clash sparks memories of 6-3 thriller

Alfreton Town travel to Cambridge United on Saturday looking to arrest a poor run of Blue Square Bet Premier Division form which has seen the Reds go without a win in the last five games and drop to second from the bottom of the table.

It is a first return to the R Costings Abbey Stadium since the memorable 6-3 extra-time FA Trophy second round replay victory Nicky Law's side pulled off only nine months ago.

Reds boss Law will again be without Nathan Arnold (broken foot), Matt Wilson (ankle ligaments) and James Ellison (suspended) but son Josh is rated as an outside possibility to return at right-back after suffering bruising to his shin and ankle against Kettering Town last weekend.

A tough task lies ahead as United have only lost once on home turf this season so far, a 2-1 reverse coming at the hands of Kidderminster Harriers way back on August 20.

Wins have been recorded at home against AFC Telford United (1-0), Hayes & Yeading United (2-1), Ebbsfleet United (2-0) and Darlington (2-0).

Jez George's side have been held to draws at home twice, Forest Green Rovers (1-1) and Stockport County (2-2) emerging with a point apiece.

Cambridge come into the fixture unbeaten in their last two outings. Their last game saw Cambridge record a 4-3 win at bottom-of-the-table Bath City on Tuesay evening.

The Us side at Bath was: Naisbitt, Jennings, Coulson, McAuley, Roberts, Dunk, Shaw, Jarvis, Carew, Berry, Gash.  Substitutes: Wylde, Hughes, Patrick, Charles, Marriott.

The goalscorers were: Michael Gash, Ashley Carew, Luke Berry and Tom Shaw (pictured), all of whom are joint top goalscorers for the Us with three apiece so far this season.
