Full backs return for Bay's Celtic clash

Colwyn Bay are boosted by the return of attacking full backs Luke Denson and Mike Lea for Saturday's home game against high flying Stalybridge Celtic.

Both are back in contention after missing the last two games through injury, but leading scorer Jon Newby is ruled out with a recurring hamstring injury and skipper Damien Allen (pictured) will need a late check after being troubled by a back problem in recent games.

It is the start of a tough run of games for the Seagulls which includes fixtures against both the joint leaders (Stalybridge and Hyde United), plus fourth-placed Gainsborough Trinity, and two lengthy away trips to Boston United and Blyth Spartans.

Stalybridge visit the Red Lion Foods Stadium at Llanelian Road still undefeated in the league this season with 10 wins and two draws in their 12 matches, so it is a big call for Colwyn Bay to end their four-match winless run by inflicting a first league defeat of the campaign on Jim Harvey's side.

'Relish being involved'

But manager Dave Challinor said: "We are looking forward to the game against one of the fancied sides; these are the type of games you relish being involved in.

"We've got some players back from injury which is a boost, because we have tried to bring in one or two additions to the squad this week and have not had much success, so that has been frustrating."

Matty Hughes, who is on loan from Fleetwood, makes his first home appearance against a Stalybridge side who are top scorers in the Blue Square Bet North and are in a fascinating duel at the top of the table with Hyde United - level on points and seven points clear of their nearest challengers.

Top scorer Phil Marsh, who started his playing career with Manchester United where he made a first team appearance in 2007, has already netted 12 times this season (as many as the whole of the Colwyn Bay side have managed) and he and Connor Jennings have proved a prolific strike partnership with 21 goals between them.
