Sven leaves Leicester

Sven-Goran Eriksson has left Leicester City 'by mutual consent'. First team coach Derek Fazackerly has also left the club.

The Foxes were expected to be challenging for promotion this season after splashing out in the summer. But former England manager Eriksson did not have the best of starts to the season, with only five wins from 13 league games.

Leicester's academy director Jon Rudkin and coach Mike Stowell have been put in temporary charge of the first team.

A statement on the Leicester City website reads: "The club and its board of directors would like to thank Sven and Derek for the contribution they have made to Leicester City during their 13 months at King Power Stadium.

"The last straw was the 3-0 home defeat by Millwall on Saturday. It was a rather poor performance. They've been inconsistent.

"The owners have got very very high aspirations, and in the last year since Eriksson joined they've spent over £20m. They're not too impressed with Eriksson's stewardship. They feel he lacks practical experience at this level, despite his eminence at international level."

"The process of recruiting a new permanent manager will begin in the coming days."
