Eriksson has faith in Beckford

Leicester City manager Sven Goran Eriksson is confident his big deadline day signing, Jermaine Beckford, will deliver for the club despite his difficult start to life back in the Championship.

The former Leeds United hit man, who scored 72 goals in 126 appearances for the Elland Road outfit, joined Leicester from Everton for an initial £3 million pounds, a deal which could rise to £4 million pounds.

Eriksson appears unconcerned that Beckford has only scored one goal so far - in Wednesday night's 2-0 win against Watford - after drawing a blank in front of goal in his first five league appearances.

"We haven't seen the best of him yet," promised the former England boss in an interview with BBC Radio Leicester.

Beckford's previous outing for Leicester came at St Andrews where the Foxes suffered their first defeat on the road this season to Birmingham City, and the manager was quick to defend his striker who came off the bench with Leicester trailing 1-0 and down to 10 men.

"It was difficult for the strikers. It's not fair to judge in a game like Birmingham because with 10 men you have to gamble."
