Reading move into play-offs thanks to Rambo

One Championship club had the edge in their Boxing Day clash - by including Rambo in their starting 11.

That's Reading manager Brian McDermott's new nickname for Shaun Cummings, the former Chelsea and West Brom full back.

Cummings dislocated his shoulder during the Royals' 1-0 win against fellow promotion chasers Leeds United on December 17, but popped it back in himself and continued playing.

Reading went into their Boxing Day clash against Brighton at the Madejski Stadium with an identical record to last season, 32 points from 22 games.

A good second half of the 2010-11 campaign saw the Royals through to the Championship play-off final against Swansea - and their 3-0 win against Brighton saw Reading move up into the play-off spots in the race for promotion this season.

It was their third win in as many games, following the 3-0 win against West Ham at the Madejski Stadium on December 10.

"April next year is a long way away," said McDermott. "It's too far way to even think about. What this win does is set us up for the next game against Ipswich, but no more than that."

The Reading manager added: "It took us a long time to get going last season and this year we had to rebuild after losing Shane Long and Matt Mills in the summer."
