Chelsea duo set to win fitness battle
Defenders David Luiz and Gary Cahill look set to win their fitness race ahead of Chelsea's Champions League final against Bayern Munich on Saturday.
Interim manager Roberto Di Matteo said last weekend that Luiz and Cahill's fight to be fit could go right up to the day of the game after both had been suffering hamstring injuries.
However, England defender Cahill has insisted he will be ready for the clash in Munich.
"I'm just happy that it's healed quickly," he said. "We've worked really hard, all day, and I'm fortunate enough to be back. Hopefully, I'll be fit, I will be fit, and hopefully I'll be out there, if selected.
"There's some work to be done in two or three days now leading up to the game for me to get back into it. If I need to do a little bit of other training, I'll do that. But, touch wood, there's no reaction and I felt fine out there."
French midfielder Florent Malouda missed out on missing on Tuesday after he suffered a hamstring injury of his own in the first-half of Chelsea's match against Blackburn Rovers on Sunday.
Di Matteo is hoping the former Lyon ace will be fit ahead of the match, while the former West Bromwich Albion boss admits he will take some reserve team players to fill the bench in Munich if need be.
"Flo (Malouda), we'll still assess and it's going to be touch and go for him to be available for Saturday," he said.
"We will take some reserve-team players onto the bench, into the squad, and just figure out what to do. I've been trying different options in training and different solutions just in case."
