Now Cahill misses Euro 2012 through injury

Gary Cahill will miss Euro 2012 after scans confirmed a double fracture of his jaw.

The Chelsea man was substituted during Saturday's 1-0 victory over Belgium when the visitors' Dries Mertens needlessly shoved him into the onrushing Joe Hart.

Cahill's withdrawal paves the way for Martin Kelly, who made his debut against Norway, to join the party. Liverpool's total of six players now means they represent more than a quarter of England's Euro 2012 squad.

Kelly's natural instincts as a full back means Roy Hodgson is likely to use Phil Jones as a replacement centre back rather than as a reserve for Glen Johnson as first appeared.

The injury comes as a third blow in a week for new manager Hodgson after Gareth Barry and Frank Lampard also had to pull out.

Hodgson said: "I wasn't too happy about the challenge - when a striker is chasing a defender who is feeding a ball to the goalkeeper, those nudges and pushes take the defender into the goalkeeper."
