Ferdinand's representative slams Hodgson

Rio Ferdinand's representative Jamie Moralee has slammed the FA and Roy Hodgson for showing a "total lack of respect" towards the defender.

Moralee said: "Lampard, Terry, Barry, Gerrard - all ageing, but they go to the tournament. Why is Rio different?

"To treat a player that has captained and served his country 81 times [in this manner] is nothing short of disgraceful - total lack of respect from Hodgson and the FA as far as I am concerned."

Ferdinand himself appeared angry with Hodgson's claim that he had been overlooked for "football reasons", posting this response on Twitter: "What reasons?????!!!"

Having been omitted from the original Euro 2012 squad, Ferdinand has now had to watch on as two defenders have been brought in ahead of him.

Phil Jagielka is an experienced pro, someone who will improve the quality of the squad and who deserves a spot, but Liverpool's Martin Kelly, despite his clear talent, is woefuly under-prepared for a major championship after a hasty debut against Norway and less than 50 club games.

Hodgson's reaction remains to be seen. One thing is for sure, the whole thing creates terrible mood music heading into Euro 2012.
