Routine win for England in Moldova
Moldova 0-5 England
England goals: Lampard (pen) 4, 29, Defoe 32, Milner 74, Baines 83
Frank Lampard's penalty in the opening minutes of the game sent England on their way to a routine victory in Moldova.
Lampard scored twice inside the first half an hour to give England a 2-0 lead, then Jermain Defoe added a third on his 50th appearance for his country soon after, with James Milner and Leighton Baines adding the fourth and fifth goals in the second half.
Lampard's first half double took him to 25 goals for England and ahead of Geoff Hurst on the all-time list of England scorers - and to within one goal of Bryan Robson.
England took the lead after three minutes. James Milner crossed from the right and Tom Cleverley's shot struck defender Simion Bulgaru's arm. A penalty was given, but it was harsh on the home side. Lampard tucked the spot-kick neatly into the bottom left corner for his eighth penalty for his country - the most by any player for England.
Defoe and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain squandered opportunities to extend the lead before Lampard doubled England's lead in the 29th minute. Steven Gerrard's pass found Glen Johnson wide on the right and his perfectly weighted ball into the box found the head of Lampard, who steered it expertly inside the near post.
Cleverley shot wide two minutes later, before Defoe added England's third. Oxlade-Chamberlain's pass picked out Defoe and he fired a first-time shot inside the near post.
Gerrard was substituted just before half-time, with Lampard taking over as captain.
England sat back a little after the break, but they eventually added to their lead in the 74th minute. Substitute Theo Walcott burst clear before finding Cleverley. He passed to Danny Welbeck, who played the ball out to Walcott, who squared for Milner to convert his first England goal.
After Roy Hodgson had made three substitutions, John Terry took a knock and struggled in the closing stages.
But there was still time for another goal, as Baines' 83rd minute free-kick was deflected off the wall and looped inside the far corner.
England finished the game with 10 men as Terry Limped off.
