Ba stunner books Blues a semi-final spot
Demba Ba's stunning volley - and a spectacular save by Petr Cech - secured FA Cup specialists Chelsea a semi-final meeting with Manchester City.
After a first half that featured hardly any clear cut chances and was littered by poor passing, a dinked ball forward from Juan Mata four minutes into the second half set up the chance for former Newcastle striker Ba, who stretched out his right boot in mid-air and guided the ball into the far top corner.
Soon after, Javier Hernandez found space at the far post and steered a header on target, only for Cech to tip the ball over the bar at full stretch.
Cech had kept out a swerving Hernandez shot in a lack-lustre first half of the quarter-final replay, after the Blues recovered from 2-0 down to earn a second game.
Chelsea will take on Manchester City at Wembley on April 14 for the right to meet Millwall or Wigan in the final.
The Blues have won the FA Cup four times in the last six seasons and seven times in total. They have been finalists in six of the last 13 seasons.
