Leeds power into Capital One Cup second round
Luke Varney and David Norris scored on their debuts for Leeds United as the Championship side showed why they are one of the Capital One Cup favourites with a 4-0 first round victory against Shrewsbury Town.
Luciano Becchio broke the deadlock in the 20th minute after Shrewsbury keeper Chris Weale could only half clear Rodolph Austin's shot, and Varney doubled the lead six minutes later.
Norris, with a 66th minute strike, and Ross McCormack (pictured), with a 70th minute penalty, completed a comfortable win.
Marvin Morgan and Michael Hector had gone close for the Shrews, but Leeds eventually proved too strong for their League One opponents.
Leeds also gave a debut to El Hadji Diouf, a few hours after announcing his signing.
