Barca see off Spurs in NextGen Series
The NextGen Series – effectively the Champions League for youth teams – is growing in popularity.
Tottenham Hotspur hosted Barcelona on Thursday evening in front of 9,000 fans at White Hart Lane in the first NextGen Series game broadcasted by Eurosport.
Barca took the lead on 19 minutes through Sandro Ramirez, who calmly slotted past Lawrence Vigouroux.
After the break, the Catalans looked more fluid in midfield and took control of the match in the 73rd minute as Sandro grabbed his second of the night to give the Spaniards a 2-0 victory and all three points.
First points for City
Manchester City were up against Fenerbahce at Hyde in Group 2, looking for their first points in the tournament.
It didn't start well for City, who fell behind after eight minutes when Hakan Cinemre headed past Ian Lawlor to make it 1-0 to the Turks.
City looked a different side after the break, with Denis Suarez pulling the strings in the City midfield.
It was Suarez who equalised for City from the penalty spot and soon after, Huws made it 2-1 to the hosts through a deflected strike.
Jordy Hiwula made it a more comfortable scoreline in stoppage time, again from the penalty spot to give City their first points in the NextGen Series.
CSKA Moscow remained unbeaten in the NextGen Series after a 1-0 victory in Molde.
Captain Gela Zaseev scored for the Russians on 54 minutes to ensure the Russians top Group 3 with maximum points from their opening three games.
