Could Hodgson’s England role be good news for Tottenham fans?

There were some raised eyebrows in the football world when the FA announced that Roy Hodgson was in line for the England manager’s job.

But the news that he has been appointed could be music to Spurs’ fans ears.

Gareth Bale hinted that he could leave Tottenham in the summer if the club fails to secure Champions League football next season, but Harry Redknapp’s shock exclusion from the FA selection process could help the White Hart Lane club retain their top stars.

Bale has been a major success at White Hart Lane and has been linked with top European teams this season, including Barcelona.

The winger says he is flattered with the interest but added that he is focused on Tottenham’s bid for Champions League football – for now.

“Obviously it’s flattering,” he said. “But at the end of the day I’m still a Tottenham player and I need to keep performing week in week out, not just for myself but for the team.”
