Hughton a frontrunner for Baggies job

Birmingham City manager Chris Hughton is second favourite to fill the vacant position at West Bromwich Albion, following Roy Hodgson’s appointment as the new England manager.

Following the Football Association’s decision to appoint Hodgson, a host of Championship and League One bosses are being linked to the manager’s job at the Hawthorns and, according to, Hughton is priced 4/1 to replace the current manager at the end of the season.

Hughton said: “I can only deal with anything that is fact and what is fact is that we've got a massively important game in a few days against a very, very good Blackpool team.”

The Birmingham boss has been linked with several roles in recent months and has cultivated a respected reputation following his time at Tottenham and Birmingham - and with the way he handled himself during his spell in charge of Newcastle.

No fewer than 10 Championship and League One managers are believed to be in the frame to succeed Hodgson, with Michael Appleton, Gus Poyet, Sam Allardyce, Neil Warnock, Dougie Freedman, Derek McInnis and Chris Powell among the names linked with the Hawthorns vacancy.
