Karacan out for the season with broken ankle

Reading's Jam Karacan is out for the season after breaking his ankle in Friday's 2-0 win against Leeds United.

The 23-year-old was injured by a Michael Brown challenge and will visit a surgeon on Monday.

Karacan was subjected to several heavy tackles. An over-zealous challenge by Danny Pugh went unpunished by referee Darren Drysdale, with Leeds manager Neil Warnock admitting after the game that Pugh was lucky not to be sent off.

Zac Thompson was shown a red card after 13 minutes for a challenge on Reading captain Jobi McAnuff.

Royals boss Brian McDermott said: "I'm really upset for Jem. Some of the tackles did not belong in the game. I'm devastated for him. He's played such a pivotal part in the team."

Two late goals from Adam Le Fondre goals secured a 2-0 win that saw Reading top the Championship table for the first time in six years, before Southampton's 2-2 draw against Portsmouth on Saturday saw them go back above Reading on goal difference.

The Royals visit Brighton on Tuesday, before a top of the table clash at Southampton on Friday.
