Reading win at Southampton to go three points clear

Reading won 3-1 at Southampton to go three points clear at the top of the Championship.

Jason Roberts gave Reading the lead in the 19th minute, but Rickie Lambert equalised three minutes after the interval.

Substitute Adam Le Fondre (pictured) struck in the 72nd minute to give the visitors a 2-1 advantage and Le Fondre wrapped it up with his second in the 90th minute.

The win sends the Royals nine points clear of third-placed West Ham and they are now just four points away from securing automatic promotion.

The Saints still only need a maximum of seven points from their remaining three games to guarantee an automatic promotion spot.

West Ham entertain Brighton tomorrow (Saturday) and if the Hammers lose, Reading will only need a single point from their last three games to seal their place in the Premier League next season.
