Carling Cup - Big opportunity for Cardiff and Blackburn

As the big guns battle it out for Carling Cup glory this week, Blackburn Rovers and Cardiff City are eyeing a place in the semi-finals.

Cardiff, one of two Championship clubs left in the competition, will see Tuesday's quarter-final home tie against Premier League strugglers Blackburn as a chance for another big highlight this season.

The Welsh club are third in the Championship, just three points adrift of the automatic promotion spots.

Blackburn, on the other hand, are bottom of the Premier League. A win in Tuesday's 7.45pm kick-off could provide them with a boost and a way to kick start their season, but defeat will at least allow them to focus on the more important task of trying to secure Premier League survival.

Also on Tuesday, Chelsea host Liverpool (7.45pm), while Arsenal entertain Manchester City.

Crystal Palace, currently 10th in the Championship, visit Manchester United in the last of the four quarter-final ties on Wednesday.

The draw for the semi-finals will take place at Old Trafford after the conclusion of the game.
