Mirallas double sinks Orient

OK it didn't come against the likes of Manchester United or Chelsea but new summer signing, Kevin Mirallas (pictured) will still be delighted to get two goals on his debut.

The 24-year-old's double added to the goals scored by Leon Osman, Victor Anichebe and Magaye Gueye as Everton thrashed Leyton Orient 5-0.

Toffees gaffer, David Moyes made six changes to the side that swept aside Aston Villa at the weekend.

Mirallas starting alongside Anichebe up front.

The breakthrough came early on when Belgian ace, Mirallas drilled home from just inside the box.

Then on the 22nd minute, Leon Osman doubled the Merseysiders lead.

Orient were dumbfounded but it got worse for the London side when that man Mirallas rifled home his second of the night.

It's been a brilliant start to the season for David Moyes' side and it got better when Victor Anichebe was set up by his strike partner, Mirallas to make it four.

The Nigerian's strike slipping through Orient keeper, Jamie Jones' hands.

Leyton Orient have never beaten a top-flight club in the League Cup and Everton in no danger of becoming the first.

A volley from Magaye Gueye put the icing on the cake for the Toffees and put more misery on Russell Slade's side.

For Everton, a comprehensive and dominant win. Orient however will want to quickly forget their trouncing at Goodison Park and focus on their League 1 campaign.

After the match, Toffees assistant manager Steve Round was full of praise for Kevin Mirallas. He said: "Kevin gave us a cameo of what he's about with his speed, his movement and his finishing.

"He showed why he was one of the top goalscorers in Greece.

"That is why we have got him at the club. He tired quite badly in the second half but we expected that."

Next up for David Moyes' side is West Brom away as they look to continue their great start to the season.

Crawley are Leyton Orient's next opponents as they look to put the 5-0 thrashing behind them.
