ROUND-UP: Blackburn player pleads guilty to assault

Blackburn's David Goodwillie has pleaded guilty to assault.

The striker (pictured) admitted that he attacked John Friel in Glasgow in November 2010. The 23-year-old, who is a Scotland international, punched Friel on the head and body.

Goodwillie, who is originally from Stirling, joined Blackburn from Dundee United in August 2011 for around £2 million.

He pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday but sentencing has been deferred until April 30 for reports.

Atalanta defender Andrea Masiello has been arrested in connection with alleged match-fixing in Serie A last season.

Eight of Masiello's Bari team-mates last season are also being investigated by police.

Police have said that two of Masiello's friends who bet on games had also been arrested. The three men have been detained in a Bari prison.

A Serie A match between Bari and Lecce last May last year saw Bari, who are now playing in Serie B, lose 2-0 with Masiello scoring an own goal.

Bari had already been relegated by the time the match was played.

Paul Murray has agreed a deal with Ticketus to allow them to be part of his consortium that is bidding for control of Rangers on Wednesday.

Murray's Blue Knights group had been negotiating with Ticketus, who financed Craig Whyte's takeover.

The aim of the discussions was to try to avoid being added to the list of the club's creditors.
